About the Qibla direction

The Qibla is the direction of the Kaaba in the Sacred Mosque in Makkah. Muslims face the Qibla during salah. The Qur’an instructs believers to turn their faces toward Al-Masjid al-Haram (Qur’an 2:144).

Important rules to follow while praying

• Face the Qibla. When able, orient yourself toward the Kaaba before beginning salah.
• Make the intention. Intend the prayer in your heart; a spoken formula is not required for the intention.
• Pray within its time. Observe the prescribed prayer time and conditions of salah.
• Be purified. Perform wudu when required and ensure your body, clothing and prayer place are clean.
• Cover appropriately. Follow Islamic requirements for covering the body during salah.
• Pray calmly. Perform standing, bowing and prostration with composure rather than rushing.
• When direction is uncertain. Make a reasonable effort to determine the Qibla. If you later discover an error, rulings may depend on circumstances and school; ask a qualified scholar for personal guidance.
• Remember device limits. This is a calculated geographic bearing, not a live magnetic-compass reading. Phone sensors and magnetic compasses can be affected by interference.
